什么是日食？
太阳被月球遮蔽的现象。月球在绕地球运行过程中，有时会走到太阳和地球中间，这时月球的影子落到地球表面上，位于影子里的观测者便会看到太阳被月球遮住，这就是日食。

日食的种类介绍
日食共有三种，即：日偏食、日环食和日全食。月球遮住太阳的一部分叫日偏食。月球只遮住太阳的中心部分，在太阳周围还露出一圈日面，好象一个光环似的叫日环食。太阳被完全遮住的叫日全食。这三种不同的日食的发生跟太阳、月球和地球三者的相互变化着的位置有关，并且也决定于月球与地球之间的距离变化。

日食过程
日全食分为五个阶段：①月球圆面刚刚和太阳圆面相接触时称为初亏，这时日偏食开始；②初亏以后约一个小时，月球和太阳两圆面相内切称为食既，这时日全食开始；③月球圆面中心和太阳圆面中心最近时称为食甚；④月球圆面和太阳圆面第二次内切称为生光，这时日全食结束，从食既到生光一般只有2～3分钟，最长不超过7分半钟；⑤生光以后约一个小时，月球圆面和太阳圆面第二次外切称为复圆，日偏食结束。查看更多
日食的周期
古代巴比伦人发现日食具有223个朔望月的周期。223个朔望月等于6585.3天，19交点年等于6585.8天，二者差不多相等。这223个朔望月，也就是18年零11天的周期称为沙罗周期。例如1981年7月31日发生日全食，18年零11天以后在1999年8月11日也要发生日全食。但223个朔望月并不恰好等于19交点年，还有0.5天的差；223个朔望月也并不恰好等于整天数，还有0.3天的差数。因此，经过一个沙罗周期以后，在地面上看到的日食的情况也有变化。看到日食的区域也并不跟上一次看到日食的区域相同。中国汉代发现日食具有135个朔望月的周期。135个朔望月等于3986.6天，11.5交点年等于3986.1天，135个朔望月约合11年少31天。例如1981年7月31日发生日全食，135个朔望月以后在1992年6月30日也会发生日全食。

日全食观测小贴士：
如果想观测这次日全食，就得提前些准备。有些观测者为了观测日食，几乎是年复一年地追赶日食，比如2008年发生在新疆和西安附近的日食。今年这次主要出现在中国的日食，开始的时间在7月21日午夜前的23:58:18，结束时间为05:12:25。以下是观测日食时需要注意的一些事项。
If you want to see the total solar eclipse, you have to plan ahead a bit.
1.First and foremost, don’t look directly at the sun. If you do, make sure that you have special viewing glasses, normal sunglasses will not work.
2.Making a pinhole viewer by using two pieces of cardboard and cutting a small in one. Turning your back to the eclipse, hold both sheets up so that the holed cardboard is closer to you. In this way, the light will shine through the holed cardboard onto the 2nd piece and you can clearly see the eclipse safety with no chance of ruining your vision permanently, thus an obvious added benefit to this method.more view
